Five-part series on what IAM members can do to stop the spread of invasive pests and plants
No one wants invasive pests or plants to travel where they are not supposed to be. The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) is now considering whether to implement voluntary or mandatory measures to address the role of sea containers in the spread of invasive pests. All parts of the shipping industry may be impacted. At a recent workshop, the North American Sea Container Initiative (NASCI) invited Brian Limperopulos to present the perspective of the International Association of Movers (IAM) and the unique challenges of the household goods industry.
Sea containers can be a vector for the spread of invasive pests and plants, both internationally and domestically, and IAM is committed to educating our members so that household goods shipments do not contribute to this issue. Over the next few weeks, IAM will provide a series of best practices for moving companies to consider to help prevent invasive pests transported by sea containers. Please watch this video from NASCI on steps you can take to stop the spread of invasive pests. For more information or to share your company’s best practices, please contact Angela DeConti at angela.deconti@iamovers.org.

Verena Goetz Joins IAM Staff
Verena has been in the moving industry for over 10 years. Hired straight out of college to help out over the busy summer months, she was told during the interview that she would either "love it or hate it." As it turns out, she loved being part of such a unique and international industry. Having friends all over the world is one her favorite parts.
She now lives with her husband and two kids in Antigua, Guatemala, enjoying a slower pace of life, the year-round good weather, and seeing volcanoes erupt daily.

SeaCorp receives NWBOC Woman-Owned and Woman-Controlled Business Certification

This year SeaCorp received the NWBOC woman-owned and woman-controlled business certification. The company was awarded this honor through the National Women Business Owners Corporation, the first national certifier of women's business enterprises. The application and verification process for this certification is lengthy and rigorous because it is such a highly valued certification. Asian Tigers Lessens Environmental Footprint with Photovoltaic Cells

Asian Tigers writes:
Jan 2023, we achieved yet another ESG milestone when our solar photovoltaics (PV) were commissioned. This notable investment brought us a total of 665 panels, covering 3,702 square meters of our roof area.
