A.P. Moller - Maersk continues green transformation with six additional large container vessels

Following the announcement that IAM has joined forces with five other leading global mobility associations to drive our industry’s efforts towards greater environmental sustainability, we learned this about new IAM member Maersk. We are proud to be in good company!

 

“A.P. Moller - Maersk (Maersk) announces that it has ordered a further six large ocean-going vessels that can sail on green methanol. The six vessels will be built by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and have a nominal capacity of approx. 17,000 containers (Twenty Foot Equivalent - TEU). They will replace existing capacity in the Maersk fleet.”

Meet the 2022 Excellence in Leadership Award nominees

The IAM Leadership Alliance Council has chosen to honor an individual for significant contributions in the area of leadership. This award recognizes an individual, regardless of their role within the organization, who demonstrates a commitment to professional growth; provides leadership to their team that is impactful, effective, motivational, and consistent; and provides an equitable working environment for all team members.

 

These individuals were nominated by their peers in the IAM membership community. The recipient will be recognized during Chuck White’s State of the IAM Address on Nov. 3 from 9:00 am - 10:30 am during the IAM Annual Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia. The nominees are:

Celebration of Life Details for Steve Lewis

The family of Steve Lewis would like to invite his industry friends to join them in Cardiff on Friday 21st October to celebrate his life. If it is not possible for you to travel to Cardiff, we hope to arrange a live link, or a recording of the celebration. There will also be an opportunity to pay your respects to Steve as well as JP Meiring at IAM in Atlanta. New LNG-powered ship christened at Port of Long Beach’s Pier A

­

“This would be a very proud day for my dad,” President and CEO George Pasha IV said, fighting back tears during the ceremony for the ship named after his father. The Long Beach call marked the completion of the 774-foot-long vessel’s maiden voyage. The ship travels a 14-day loop from Honolulu to Oakland to Long Beach and back to the island state.

 

Pasha Group is a long-time IAM member and is in its third generation of faily ownership. George Pasha III, after whom the ship is named, is a member of IAM's Hall of Honor.

Van der Ent Group Turns 100 Years Old

On Sept. 23, the Van der Ent Group celebrated its 100th anniversary with a big party in the warehouse in Rotterdam, which was converted into a party room. About 220 guests, including all staff and many business relations, had a wonderful evening at the moving company. See the movie the company produced for this milestone.

UNF and Suddath Launch New Logistics IT Solutions Lab

The University of North Florida and The Suddath Companies are pleased to announce the launch of a new UNF Suddath Logistics Information Technology Solutions Lab. In a grand opening ceremony at the Coggin College of Business on October 11, 2022, UNF and Suddath leaders, other members of the business community, alumni and current students explored how the lab’s new technology access and design will enhance the learning experience of students enrolled in the Transportation and Logistics program.

 

IAM hopes that the students will avail themselves of the opportunity to apply for the Alan F. Wohlstetter Scholarship as well.
