Save the Date for IAM’s Official Opening Reception Afterparty, Nov. 2

Kick off this year’s IAM Annual Meeting & Expo with the Official IAM Afterparty benefitting Move For Hunger, presented by Cornerstone Moving & Storage. The Afterparty, hosted by the U.S. Domestic Asset-Based Movers (U.S. DAB) group will be held in the Hyatt Hotel’s International Ballroom from 9:00 p.m.–midnight following the Opening Reception on November 2. All proceeds benefit IAM’s charity partner Move For Hunger in their mission to end hunger and food waste.

Donations are USD $50.00 in advance or $75.00 at the door, which gets you two drink tickets and an entry into IAM’s first-ever Rock, Paper, Scissors (RPS) tournament. The RPS champion wins a free four-night hotel stay for the 2023 Annual Meeting in Toronto. This is your chance to win the title of Best RPS Mover In the World!

We’ve got a DJ spinning your favorite tunes all night long and drinks at the bar. Play or just hang out—there’s even a golf simulator for those ready to make a run at the PGA or LIV. Between the party, the networking, and the Rock, Paper, Scissors tournament, you won’t want to miss this event! Get your tickets today at the Afterparty website!

A Little DAB’ll do Ya!
By Emily Kozubowski

IAM established the Domestic Asset Based Mover Group (DAB) shortly after the dissolve of AMSA. Often, when people think of IAM, they think it’s an association for movers involved in international moving. While that’s certainly one facet, IAM is an international association for all movers, and we can help you grow your business, even if you currently do no international business. A DAB is a US Domestic Asset Based Mover that is an independent mover or van line agent with trucks, crews, and warehouses. They have also created the DAB-Ally group, a combination of vendors and suppliers specifically supporting Asset Based movers like you. If you are member of a company that considers yourself a “supplier” to the moving and storage industry and would like to learn more about the DAB Ally Program check this out DAB Ally Program.

Claims Wisdom
By Laura Speroni

We are witnessing an uptick in property damage claims. More than several were filed well past the seven calendar days allowed post- delivery; a couple were months post-delivery. We always request the service member forward pictures preferably, time stamped to us of the damage they are claiming as well as their description of damage, location in the home and how it was caused. Several of the complaints were regarding driveway damage. When we requested close pictures to show the damage in perspective, it was witnessed that the driveway had pre-existing damage which we did not repair. We also use tools like google maps or Zillow type listing places to see what the driveway looked like before the move even took place.  When we presented our finding to the members on this specific claim they responded, “Oh I just moved in and didn’t realize it was there.”

Laura Speroni

Laura has been with Bekins Moving Solutions since 2002 and her experience in this industry has allowed her to learn the “ins and outs” of the HHG Moving and Storage process from start to finish. I like to think of Laura as vigilant yet fair as she navigates through claims from all service lines.
