The US Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) is seeking public comments in response to a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) issued yesterday implementing a requirement of the Ocean Shipping Reform Act of 2022 (OSRA) to define “unreasonable refusal to deal or negotiate” with respect to vessel space accommodation provided by an ocean common carrier.

IAM is reviewing the current developments from the FMC and taking steps to advocate for our members as it changes its regulatory approach. More information will be shared in the near future.

Spoofed Emails can Cause You Trouble

Every year, we hear from IAM members about someone who appears to be from our staff but is actually someone pretending to be. It can be tricky to detect this, but if you ever get a suspicious email, treat it as such and be wary of the request. This is something that happens every year, especially as we get ready for the Annual Meeting & Expo. IAM's Carl Weaver recently posted an article about this on LinkedIn and has some great tips for how to detect this sort of scam.

The big thing to know is that if you are suspicious of an email you receive, feel free to contact our office or the person it looks like sent it, and see if it was legitimate. It is never a bother to us to answer your questions.
