U.S. Supreme Court Declines to Consider Industry Challenge to California's Worker Classification Law

Denial issued to the California Trucking Association's petition to CA Assembly Bill 5

As IAM has reported on and followed over the past two years, today the U.S. Supreme Court formally declined to consider challenges brought by the California Trucking Association to CA Assembly Bill 5, which laid out specific criteria for determining a worker’s classification status, as either an employee or independent contractor, through an evaluation commonly referred to as the "ABC test". The ABC test is the core of the legislation, and is used to determine a worker's status.

Survey on Shipping Lithium Batteries in Personal Property Shipments

Please take a minute to complete this survey about lithium batteries. TRANSCOM has asked IAM to engage the moving industry to find out how long it will take to implement their new policy on moving lithium batteries and equipment containing lithium batteries, as a part of a customer’s personal property shipment. We’d like your input on a few short comments. One input per company, please. Your responses will be confidential.

Please share the survey link to all companies within your network, regardless of whether they are IAM members or not. We’d like to get this information out as broadly as possible to movers who participate in the DoD market…TSPs, origin/destination agents, SIT and NTS warehouses, etc.

If you have any questions, please direct them to daniel.bradley@iamovers.org

New USTRANSCOM_Industry Call (7 July) Every Other Week

Last week (7 July) began the first of an every-other-Thursday call with TRANSCOM, the Services and industry.  This call replaces the previous Tuesday call. It is by invite only from TRANSCOM.  Since this is the second call of the day with DoD, I will provide updates by exception on items that are different from the morning call.  Please see the notes and slides from this call.
