USTC J9 Stop Movement/COVID-19 Call (1 May)

Rick Marsh started the call announcing that the GHC had been awarded; stating that USTC was proud of that milestone. He then turned his attention to the slide labeled “For Discussion Purposes Only”. USTC and the Services continue to work projecting requirements following the eventual end of the Stop Movement Order, trying to give industry a sense of how many shipments to expect; while trying to get a sense from industry what capacity can be handled on a weekly basis; during which weeks; and for how long.

Military Movers Bleed Red Ink as Troop Transfers Delayed Anew

The Pentagon, as the coronavirus continued to spread, has extended through June 30 its halt—originally set to end May 11—on most troop moves. The International Association of Movers and The American Moving and Storage Association initially urged Congress to pass $187 million to help the industry after the Pentagon stopped the moves on March 16 and raised their request to $450 million on April 27, warning of “unprecedented economic losses” causing movers to go out of business, with widespread job cuts.

Army expects to PCS hundreds of high-priority soldiers with new exemption to stop-movement order

Top Army officials expect to allow hundreds of soldiers to make scheduled permanent-change-of-station moves in the coming months following less-restrictive measures approved in the Pentagon’s new stop-movement order.

The latest version of the Pentagon’s stop-movement order, which is scheduled to last through June 30, is meant to curb the spread of the coronavirus among its troops. Issued Monday, the order allows senior service officials to grant new exemptions for service members whose new assignments are deemed essential to the Defense Department’s overall mission.

RPP Delivers More Than $300 USD Back to IAM Members

RPP Logo

Now in its fourth year as an inclusive member benefit for all IAM Governing and Core Members, the IAM Receivable Protection Program (RPP) continues to grow and serve as a safeguard for IAM members. All indicators IAM tracks for the program show both greater usage by and benefit for members in 2019. This increased usage rate demonstrates better understanding by the members and how to use it to protect their companies. As the industry experiences challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic and consolidation, the RPP will be there to provide IAM members with a safety net.

First Weekly USTC J9 Peak Season Call (30 April)

J9 discussed that from week 12 to date, industry is moving approximately 30% of what was moved last year. Those numbers are getting lower each week, but that appears largely due to DPS instability, changes and adjustments to the Stop Move Order, and DoD members waiting for some clarity on the COVID-19 crisis before scheduling their move. J9 stated they expect more shipments to break free in the coming weeks. And JPPSOs are going to be a little more aggressive engaging service members to get their moves scheduled, so J9 believes there will be a little up tick in the amount of shipments picked up and scheduled.

USTC J9 Stop Movement/COVID-19 Call (28 April)

J9 was asked when the Peak Season message would be released. We were told it will likely be Thursday or Friday. J9 was also asked when refusals would start. Danny Martinez answered that once published, shipments picking up 15 May or after would be eligible for refusals. Per J9, there are still some details being worked out for the Peak Season message. One example given was coordinating with the Services on whether industry can use spread dates this peak season.
