Candidate for Vice Chair: Lakelan Fennell
Vice President of Market Development
Nilson Van & Storage

My career in the moving industry started right out of high school.  While attending college, I worked in the warehouse and on the trucks performing packing services, loading and unloading of household goods and performed office relocations.  During this time I was trained in DOD relocation regulations (4500-34R) and began performing military premove surveys.  After graduating college, I worked in claims, National Account sales, COD sales, administered driver statements and trained employees through Unigroup’s Quality Labor Training program.  During the next few years, I was the General Manager of our Beaufort, SC, Charleston, SC, and Columbia, SC  locations before being promoted to Vice President in 2005 and became a board member of Nilson Van & Storage.

Since 2005, I have been active in all aspects of the business including accounting, insurance (Cargo, Auto, Workers Compensation, Health, etc), residential, national account and O/I sales, DPM contracts, NTS rate filing and management, Code 4 and D compensation agreements, managing banking relationships, employment related matters and many other areas.  I have filed GAO protests and brought matters before the Armed Services Board of Contract Appeals (ASBCA) over contract related issues.  I served on the previous AMSA Military Traffic and Government Affairs Committees. I am currently on the following committees of IAM: Government, Congressional and Regulatory (GC&R), Budget and Finance, the current DMB (DAB Management Board), DAB Advisory Committee, and the DAB Newsletter Committee.

Now in my 29th year at Nilson Van & Storage, I continue to advocate for the needs of the Domestic Asset Based movers.   We are in a unique position as the “boots on the ground” to know first hand what the issues are and what the solutions should be.  In my opinion, the DAB movers are some of the smartest people in the moving industry and a lot of credit goes to IAM for championing this group and supporting our efforts to have our voices heard.  A lot of credit also goes to the DAB Task Force members and their efforts to push this forward and build equity within the group.  I am looking forward to building that equity to not only grow the group, but also to grow our position within the industry to effect real beneficial progress for the DAB members. In this respect, I would appreciate your vote for Vice Chair of the DAB Management Board.
