It's See Ya Later, Not Good Bye

By Chris Lantz, DAB Management Board Chair

I wanted to take a moment as this will be my last DAB Digest article as Chairman of this esteemed board. It has been an incredible journey filled with countless challenges, triumphs and even some laughs along the way.

As I reflect on my tenure, I can't help but recall the countless meetings, intense debates, and strategic decisions we made together for the betterment of this great industry. Through it all, we have navigated stormy seas, celebrated great achievements, and worked tirelessly to steer our asset-based movers towards success.

I have had the privilege of leading such a talented and dedicated group of individuals, and I am truly grateful for your unwavering support, trust, and commitment. Each of you has played an integral role in reshaping an industry that needed to know who and what it stands for. We are the backbone of moving and storage and people can see and feel our value.

As I step down form this role (I didn’t get impeached), I leave with a sense of nostalgia and excitement for what lies ahead. I am more than confident that the future holds great promise for this board and the asset-based movers it serves. There is uncertainty in this industry but don’t forget at the end of the day, NOTHING gets moved without US, and WE is stronger than ME.

As I bid you farewell, I leave you with this simple reminder: keep working hard, keep pushing boundaries, and NEVER forget your worth in the services you provide to ever single person that chooses us to move their lives with us.

Thank you once again for your incredible support, and I wish you all the very best in your future endeavors.

Protecting Your Move: Uncovering the Dark Side of the Moving Industry

On Sept. 26 at 12:00 p.m. Eastern, we will restart our monthly DAB Hours. This one will provide additional awareness about the danger of rogue movers. It shines a light on the shadowy world of bad actors, inspiring our industry and its customers to be vigilant and take necessary precautions to safeguard their belongings and well-being when embarking on a move.

We will have a special guest on this webcast who unfortunately just experienced this firsthand. A military member got caught in the mix with one of the “Bad Guy Brokers.” He did his homework before embarking on a personally procured move (PPM). The nightmare started on day one. There is good that comes out of all this, which you’ll learn more about during the webcast. Our goal is to further educate the industry and consumers to choose professional, certified movers when selecting a company to move their lives.

Preventing Missing Item Claims

By Casey Myers

Missing items are a significant problem that affects the moving industry nationwide.  Many claims are paid simply because the drivers, packers and warehouse personnel are not taking the time to accurately notate on the shipping documents items to be moved or not moved.

If your company doesn’t use an electronic inventory system, now may be the right time to consider one. It’s a great way to reduce the risk of loss or misplaced items. In addition, it helps streamline operations, enhance the customer experience and improves overall efficiency.

Here are some top tips to reduce missing item claims at origin, destination and storage in transit (SIT).
