Canada to open border to fully vaccinated U.S. citizens on Aug. 9

Canada on Monday said it will begin to ease pandemic restrictions at the U.S.-Canada border next month, allowing U.S. citizens and permanent residents living in the United States who are fully vaccinated with Canadian-authorized vaccines to enter for nonessential travel without quarantining.

To be eligible for entry, fully vaccinated U.S. citizens and permanent residents must be asymptomatic and present a negative coronavirus molecular test taken within 72 hours of flight departure or arrival at a land crossing.

FMC Establishes Ocean Carriers Audit Program

The U.S. Federal Maritime Commission has established a new audit program and dedicated audit team to assess carrier compliance with the Agency’s rule on detention and demurrage as well as to provide additional information beneficial to the regular monitoring of the marketplace for ocean cargo services.

The Audit Program will analyze the top nine carriers by market share for compliance with the Commission rule interpreting 46 USC 41102(c) as it applies to detention and demurrage practices in the United States. The Commission will work with companies to address their application of the rule and clarify any questions or ambiguities. Information supplied by carriers may be used to establish industry best practices.

RPP Delivers More Than $400,000 USD Back to Members in 2020

Now in its sixth year as an inclusive member benefit for all IAM Governing and Core Members, the IAM Receivable Protection Program (RPP) continues to grow and serve as a safeguard for IAM members.

The key insight from last year was that RPP usage declined due to the reduction in business associated with the pandemic. Despite the slip in usage, RPP effectiveness improved with an enhanced claims process unveiled by IAM and a growing reserve fund. The former allows IAM to provide more proactive member support on claims while the latter allows IAM to absorb greater losses in the future and enable capacity to invest in further strengthening the program.
