Port of Montreal sees drop in shipments amid ongoing labour dispute

Shipping volumes at the Port of Montreal are dropping amid the spectre of a potential strike, Maritime Employers Association president Martin Tessier says. Volume at the port has dropped 1.8 per cent since the start of 2021, Tessier added, as customers look to other ports to ship to and from. The union representing 1,125 longshore workers and the employer concluded a seven-month truce on March 20.

U.S. DAB Group Meets at Dispatchers Convention

IAM’s Management Board participated in the Dispatcher’s Convention in Austin, TX last week. Many of the DAB Management Board members hosted an open bar social hour Friday night, open to all convention participants. The DAB group was spun up over the last year, so this was the first in-person meeting they had been able to coordinate, and they look forward to future meetings as the pandemic gets under control. Jamila Kenney Promoted

IAM's Jamila Kenney, with 16 years at IAM, was recently promoted to Deputy Director of Finance & Administration. IAM staff are all proud of her hard work and dedication that have brought her this far. “Jamila is a key contributor to IAM’s success. In her new role, she will continue to provide invaluable support to IAM Staff while helping lead forward new initiatives like the IAM Leadership Alliance,” said IAM President Chuck White.

Suddath Acquires Daryl Flood Inc.

According to a news release circulated today, “Suddath …has acquired Daryl Flood Inc. (DFI). Effective today, March 31, 2021, the stock-purchase sale includes all of DFI’s operating companies…” The news release highlights the magnitude of this acquisition when it states that, “Combined, the two companies boast more than 140 years of operation and leverage 45 U.S. and international locations with nearly 3.5M sq. ft. of warehouse space.”

Hilldrup Promotes Matt Caler to Director, Client Services

Hilldrup is pleased to announce that Matt Caler, now Director, Client Services, based out of the Stafford Corporate Headquarters, has been promoted. Matt has been a part of Hilldrup’s management team since joining our organization in 2015. Previously, Matt served as Manager, Client Services where he served as a subject matter expert and resource for Hilldrup clients of all industries and sizes. Matt is a graduate of the University of Mary Washington where he obtained his bachelor of science degree in business administration. He holds both his Certified Relocation Professional (CRP) and Employee Relocation Council’s Global Mobility Specialist (GMS) designations as well.

Juan Herrera Returns to JK Moving Services

JK Moving Services has announced the return of Juan Herrera to the company as international relocation consultant. Juan Herrera JKJuan previously worked for the Virginia-based company between 2015 and 2019 as a move consultant before joining insurance firm Willis Towers Watson as client services manager for marine insurance. Juan said he was keen to return to the moving industry and was looking forward to the increased responsibility his new role involved.
