IAM recently recorded with industry experts Ray daSilva of Mobility Exchange LLC, Mark Oakeshott of Mark Oakeshott Consulting LLC, and IAM President, Chuck White, where they discuss the recent wave of mergers and acquisitions and get their take on how to position yourself and your company in this changing industry landscape.

Judge Temporarily Blocks Enforcement of New California Law Affecting Moving Companies

According to the California Moving and Storage Association, the ruling temporarily halts the enforcement of some provisions of the that would have been detrimental to the California moving industry. However, it remains unclear whether the Judge’s ruling would apply to intrastate shipments within California. An update is expected on January 13, 2020.

If you have a suggestion for someone who should be in the Hall of Honor, . Nominees do not have to be from IAM members companies and do not have to be still living to be awarded.

Ann Wohlstetter Appointed to Board of Alan F. Wohlstetter Scholarship Fund (AFWSF)

IAM is proud to announce that Ann Wohstetter, daughter of Alan F. Wohlstetter, has been named to be on the board of the scholarship fund that bears her father's name.

 

“IAM and the AFWSF was an integral part of both my Mom’s and Dad’s life. I am proud and honored to serve on the Board of Directors and to be part of the team leading the Scholarship Fund forward,” Ann writes.

 

Ann is a Marketing and Business Strategy Consultant, helping organizations identify their competitive advantage to position them for success. Clients include the Panda Restaurant Group, University of Southern California, and numerous nonprofit organizations that focus on supporting education of low-income children. Her prior experience includes over 20 years with Nestle USA, leading teams and running business units across the food, beverage, and health/wellness space. She is a graduate of Vassar College and the Wharton School of Business.

 

IAM congratulates Ann Wohlstetter and looks forward to working with her on this important project. awards up to 10 scholarships each year to post-secondary students who are pursuing a degree in transportation and logistics.

Have You Paid Your Annual Membership Dues?

Dues for IAM are now in arrears if they have not yet been paid, as the membership cycle follows the calendar year. Note that unpaid members currently have an orange check mark in Mobility Exchange, while paid members have a green check mark. We understand that bank wires and mailed checks can take some time arrive and do not want that situation to unduly affect our members. Don't delay!

Young Professionals Set New Strategic Direction

The group has been hard at work evaluating where they want to go as a group and has established new vision and mission statements to guide their progress. From their web page:

 

The Vision of the IAM-YP is to engage and serve all global moving and mobility professionals under the age of 40, and its Mission is to provide global moving and mobility professionals under the age of 40 with professional development, networking, and philanthropic opportunities to prepare the current membership to lead IAM and the industry in the future.

 

The IAM-YP group is open to all IAM members who are under 40 years old. IAM Governing Members get three YP memberships as part of their annual membership.

Tim Helenthal Takes Reins as CEO & Chairman of National Van Lines

Long-time National Van Lines executive and current IAM Executive Committee Chair Tim Helenthal has assumed the company’s top leadership role. Effective Jan. 1, Tim is CEO & Chairman of National Holding Co., the parent company of interstate-mover NVL and National Forwarding Co. His rise from President & COO is the culmination of a multi-year succession plan announced in 2013. He replaces Maureen Beal, who assumed the helm as CEO & Chairman in 1993 and whose grandfather started National Van Lines in 1929. Maureen retired Dec. 31.

Arpin Van Lines’ Drivers and Agents Volunteer for Wreaths Across America for the 7th Year

It is an annual event, which Arpin volunteers lookforward to participating in every year. Wreaths Across America Day wreath laying ceremonies took place on Saturday, December 14, all over the country. This year, Arpin drivers and agents were honored to transport 132,000 wreaths to 40 different veteran cemeteries across the United States. The Arpin Charitable Fund was an official fundraising sponsor of the event.
