Proposed rule would require brokers to verify importer IDs

IAM encourages U.S. members to read the linked article and provide us with feedback. We are concerned that the proposed rule put forth by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) would place a further burden on transferees moving to the U.S.

 

"Specifically, the proposed rule would at a minimum require customs brokers, at the time they obtain a valid POA needed to transact customs business on behalf of an importer client, to collect...a recent credit report."

FMC Approves Dye’s Final Recommendations on Detention and Demurrage

Commissioner Dye submitted three proposals to the FMC: First, she recommended the agency publish an interpretive rule that clarifies how the Commission will assess the reasonableness of detention and demurrage practices. She also recommended establishing a Shipper Advisory Board and continued support for the Supply Chain Innovation Team working to address chassis availability issues in Memphis, Tenn.

 

IAM will continue to publish updates as the FMC puts recommendations into action from Commissioner Dye’s fact-finding investigation.

New Regulations in Australia Regarding Import of HHG/PP and BMSB (Stink Bugs)

The brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB) is an invasive species in Australia, and hearty enough to be easily included in international shipments and survive a long voyage. The Australian International Movers Association recently issued an alert that the country's Department of Agriculture is requiring some household goods to be fumigated and will inspect some containers for the insect.
