ISA Distributes Patronage Dividend Totaling $650,000.00 to ISA Members

October 05, 2021

The Board of Directors of the International Shippers Association (ISA) recently approved and has distributed a patronage dividend totaling $650,000.00 to ISA members of record participating in ISA’s Military–Government Group during the 2020 calendar year.

ISA, which was established in 1999, is a ‘collective buying’ group affiliated with the International Association of Movers (IAM). However, ISA operates as a separate ‘for-profit’ corporation with its own charter, by-laws and board of directors.

This is the second year in a row that ISA has awarded a patronage dividend totaling $650,000.00. Since it began paying out dividends in 2003, ISA has cumulatively returned to its members $3,444,448.00 in annual patronage dividends.

The individual ISA Member dividends are based on the 2020 North Atlantic and Pacific “through-put” activity that each Transportation Service Provider (TSP) has shipped through SEACO, S.A, the ISA Military/Government Group’s shipping agency contractor.

The process of determining the individual dividends involves taking a portion of ISA’s retained equity (revenue) and, after calculating operational and administrative expenses, dividing that number with the cubic feet shipped by each member participating in the group that particular year.

In 2020, the highest patronage dividend paid was just over $36,000, with the average individual company dividend being $4,140.00.

Each ISA Member who qualifies and receives a patronage dividend is responsible for meeting any tax filing requirements or any tax implications under the laws of the country in which that member resides.
