Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Activity Update

April 21, 2021

Last week, the Biden Administration announced they will nominate Meera Joshi to be the next Administrator of the FMCSA. Ms. Joshi has been serving in that role in an acting capacity since January. Her background in the transportation world was focused on for-hire taxi and car services, recently serving as Commissioner of the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission. Among her accomplishments during her tenure there was overseeing the development of a transportation data standard for app-based providers.

The agency has not yet introduced major rulemakings this Congress, however areas surrounding Hours of Service, driver detention, insurance requirements and driver pilot program reviews are among the major issues anticipated for consideration later this year.
