COVID-19 News from Dominican Republic

On Sunday night the president of the Dominican Republic, Mr. Danilo Medina spoke to our nation to communicate how successful our country have been in handling the Covid-19 crisis with numbers that fall below those of the region and below many other countries in the rest of the world and announced the measures to start reactivating our economy which will be based in a phased reopening.

 

1.- New schedule that eases nighttime curfew. From Monday the 18th curfew will only be from 7:00 pm to 5:00 am from Monday to Saturdays for a three hours reduction every day in regards to the previous scheme. On Sundays will start at 5:00 pm and end at 5:00 for an hour reduction.

 

2.-First phase of the de-escalation:

 

Starting from May the 20th:

  • Micro and small business are allowed to work with no more than 50% of their employees.
  • Medium and big companies will have to operate with no more than 25% of their employees.
  • Government sector will start to operate with 50% of their personnel.

 

3.-Transportation and mobility

 

Starting from May the 20th:

  • Only public transportation of passengers will be allowed to operate from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. The public transportation will operate at only 30% of capacity. Cargo transportation is also allowed in the same schedule.
  • Wearing masks at all times while in vehicles remain an obligation and users will remain in silence and are not allowed to socialize. They must keep the social distancing.
  • Private transportation of passengers will be allowed in the next phase.

 

4.-The closing continues for:

  • Borders: air, sea and land will remain closed.
  • Leausures facilities will remain closed.
  • Demostrations, meetings and parades will not be allowed.
  • Malls, Casinos and hotels will remain closed (54,000 hotel rooms).
  • Schools, universities and any kind of education center will remain closed.
  • Restaurants will continue to operate for home deliveries.
