IAM Young Professionals Update

October 11, 2019

The IAM-Young Professionals continued its progression toward being a more mission-driven and philanthropic organization, in addition to its historically strong and valuable networking purpose. With over 50 percent of the YP members in attendance, they had a strong presence throughout the four-day event of the IAM 57th Annual Meeting and Expo in Chicago, and used their platform as a force for team building, philanthropy, and environmental stewardship.

The YP Team Building Event

During the team building event, the YPs participated in a disaster relief simulation hosted by Kathy Fulton of American Logistics Aid Network. The challenge presented in the game-based session put them in the roles of business, non-profit, and government organizations working to deliver critical commodities to a community following a disaster. After the event, the YP group donated $1,000 on behalf of IAM to ALAN to help support their efforts to provide supply chain assistance to disaster relief organizations.

Global Green Initiative

Representatives from FIDI 39 Club, Lacma Next and IAM-YP convened during the annual meeting to hold initial discussions regarding ways to increase environmental sustainability. The collaboration is known as the Global Green Initiative, with the stated aim of “raising environmental awareness in our industry and educating the future moving generation on the importance of improving sustainability industry wide”. The coalition will continue to explore ways to incorporate environmental considerations in their their respective conferences to minimize the negative impact on the environment.

Social Mixer

The highlight of the YP events each year is the Social Mixer, themed this year as a "Party with a Purpose." This year's event was no different but had the added impact of raising $10,000 for the Alan F. Wohlstetter Scholarship Fund.
