Editorial Calendar for The Portal

The International Association of Movers magazine, The Portal, is read by thousands around the world and mailed to more than 170 countries six times a year. It is our members' premier information, advertising and communications resource. See the editorial calendar below.

Themes for upcoming issues:

  • January/February (Deadline: Jan. 10)
Career Development: Marching to Your Own Drummer.
A spotlight on the Mentor Match program, and a discussion of professional growth. Some people choose career paths that do not include aspiring toward a CEO position. We could pull material from this year's Knowledge Lab with the help of presenters. Basically, we'll be looking for the aspirations expressed by individuals and what constitutes satisfaction in one's career and job. This would be a good topic for YPs in particular.
  • March/April (Deadline: Feb. 29)
IAM Dynasties: Passing the Torch to New Generations Profiles of family-owned businesses now under at least the third generation of leaders. Family business-related themes have always been popular with Portal readers, so we're looking for some good content for this issue.
  • May/June (Deadline: April 29)
Heavy Lifting: Surviving and Thriving Amid the Ruins How movers are working through and around conflicts and in unstable (i.e., heavy-lift) areas of the world; rebuilding destroyed or compromised infrastructure; and navigating bureaucratic hurdles.
  • July/August (Deadline: June 29)
    Odd Jobs
We'll cover the strangest, most unique assignments companies have handled. A lighthearted look at some of the quirkiest aspects of the moving business.
  • September/October (Deadline: Aug. 30)
    Annual Meeting issue.
  • November/December (Deadline: Nov. 4)
A photo essay and narrative recap of the Annual Meeting.
