What is Mentor Match?
Mentor Match is an online networking and career development tool designed to allow employees of IAM members to expand their professional network and establish mutually beneficial relationships based on career aspirations and interests.
Is there a fee associated with using Mentor Match?
Mentor Match is a benefit of IAM membership and is available only to employees of IAM members. There is no charge to use this resource.
Who are the mentors and protegés?
IAM’s Mentor Match mentors and protegés are employees of IAM members that have a desire to connect with moving, relocation, forwarding and logistics industry professionals and to learn more about the industry.
Our mentors are industry professionals who want to connect andshare their skills, knowledge and industry expertise to help other industry professionals achieve their professional development goals.
Our protegés are industry professionals who want to connect and learn specific skills and knowledge while receiving guidance on their professional development goals.
How are mentors and protégés selected?
Our mentors and protegés are matched based on career aspirations and interests.
How do I enroll?
Get started by completing your member profile on the IAM Social Café and then clicking on one of the enrollment buttons on the left.
You will be instructed to choose preferences you want to use for your protégé search and also to complete your member profile.

How do I Find a mentor or a protégé?
Once you have enrolled as mentor and/or protégé.
Click on the mentors' names to view their profiles. Once you have found a match, click on the mentor badge (seen below the mentor's profile image) to send the mentor an email request. An e-mail will be sent to the mentor alerting them that they have been requested to be a mentor. The mentor will be able to accept or decline the request.

An e-mail will be sent to the protégé alerting them that they have been requested to be a protégé. The protégé will be able to accept or decline the request.
How will I know if a protégé or mentor has selected me?
You will receive an e-mail request from the mentor or protégé. You will be prompted to accept or reject the request.
Is it okay to reject a request?
Yes, but we encourage you to at least have an initial conversation to explore whether the relationship would be mutually fulfilling.
You can decline a request by visiting the "My Mentor Match Relationships" page and checking the "decline" button next to the specific request.
What should I do if I do not hear from the mentor or protégé I requested?
If you do not hear from the mentor or protégé within one or two weeks, contact them using the contact information found on their profile page.
Can I have more than one mentor or a protégé?
Yes, but there is a limit of three Mentor Match relationships you can establish.
We recommend that you limit the number of people you engage with so that you have sufficient resources to be responsive to their needs.
You can limit the number of protégé requests you are willing to accept when you enroll as a mentor or protégé.
How often do I meet with my mentor or protégé?
Our recommendation is to connect with your mentor and/or protégé (face-to-face or online) at least once a month.
Where can I meet with my mentor or protégé?
Because we do not want participants to be limited by geographic distance, we encourage you and your mentor and/or protégé pursue an online or virtual relationship. Most of your communication can occur by phone or electronically. The IAM Annual meeting is a great opportunity to meet in person.
How long does the Mentor Match relationship last?
We recommend that mentors and/or protégés agree on a schedule that works best for the relationship.
We encourage a long-term relationship but short-term relationships are permitted.
The most important thing is to discuss your mutual expectations about time and communication at the start of your relationship.
What if I am going to be on vacation or unavailable for a period of time?
Go to the enrollment page, click the “Mentor Status” or “Protégé Status” link then click on the check-box next to “Temporarily Not Participating.”
Doing this will indicate that you are not accepting any mentor and/or protégé requests at the moment, and your Mentor Match profile will not be included in the search for a mentor and/or protégé. It is your responsibility to communicate your availability to your existing mentors and/or protégés.
How do I end a Mentor Match relationship?
If the Mentor Match relationship is complete, go to the "My Mentor Match Relationships" page and mark the relationship as “completed.”
If the Mentor Match relationship is not working out, please kindly discuss your decision to end the relationship with your mentor and/or protégé. You can also reach out to Ayana Singhateh, Member Services Coordinator for assistance. Go to the "My Mentor Match Relationships" page and mark the relationship as “completed.”
What benefits do I receive from the organization if I participate in the Mentor Match program?
As an active program participant, you will receive a ribbon identifying your participation in the Mentor Match program.
Once you register with Mentor Match you will join IAM’s Mentor Match community in the Social Café. Here you have the opportunity to take advantage of other features such as tracking your Mentor Match relationships, participating in online discussions related to Mentor Match, and accessing helpful information via the resource library in IAM.
