Authority administrator and chief executive Jorge Quijano said that, while vessel transits were its primary business barometer, ports activity had become increasingly important to the country as a whole.
  • Panama Canal Sets New Annual Tonnage Record in 2018

    Nov 1, 2018 — The Panama Canal has set a new annual record for the total amount of tonnage that passed through the waterway over the course a fiscal year, recording a total tonnage 442.1 million Panama Canal tons (PC/UMS) in FY 2018. This amounts to a 9.5 percent increase compared to 2017, when 403.8 million PC/UMS passed through the Canal.
